I'm not a ballistics expert but, I think the "air cushion" will only slow down d hollow points compared to d pointed, bec it forms a cup of air in front of d projectile.. Even cars use aerodynamics to "channel" air flow around d car's edges to minimize drag, thus giving us better fuel efficiency. In like manner, pointed pellets will force d air in front to its edges, thus slicing thru air while cavitating, to enable it to travel further & more accurate than a hollow point. A hollow point is the best, when it comes to "more damage" against soft targets i.e, hunting. It expands, thus creating a bigger wound.

Great article! I have 3 Benjamin Nitros. It took a while to realize the dome pellets were the best for accuracy. I feel the other pellet designs are created the same as fishing lures. They are designed to catch the buyer before the fish! Reading on scopes. I like the shim idea on the back mount. My sons friend pulled the trigger with the barrel down and bent it. I had to buy a new barrel($25 plus elbow grease) but the gun is shooting high still. I will try the shims. Thanks.

Pointed pellets lose accuracy fairly quickly over distance and are not very aerodynamic at these speeds or with the angles they are capable of being manufactured with. They also tend to over-penetrate. Their only real usage is in low-mid powered air rifles that need extra penetration.
Domed is the better choice for longer distance hunting with high powered rifles, or hallow point for close range generally. Even hallow points are more aerodynamic than pointed, when a hallow point is shot it produces a cushion of air in the hallow area giving it the characteristics of a domed pellet, until the velocity starts to drop and the cushion stops functioning. This means they stay accurate generally until their velocity drops
